Preparing Artwork for Print
Reflective Art:
- Artists should create their designs to scale and include enough additional image to allow for all of the bleed that may be necessary.
- The canvas or art board used should be flexible so that it can be wrapped around the scanner drum. Also keep in mind that the paint or inks used need to be dry somewhat flexible to so they do not crack or chip when wrapped around the drum.
- The maximum canvas or art board size should not exceed 28.5" X 20.5". Maximum allowable image size is 27.5" X 19.5". If any of the above bulleted points are not met, it will result in your job being sent out to have a transparency made. This can delay a job and also create problems with sharpness and color matching.
Transparent Art:
- We can create separations from various size transparencies starting as small as 35mm on up.
- Be sure to inspect all transparencies thoroughly under a loop for clarity, dirt, and scratches before sending them to us for separations.

Digital Art:
Our primary layout program is QuarkXPress. We can also accept files set up in a Pagemaker, Illustrator and Freehand. When working with a raster or vector graphics in these programs, do not embed your graphic, link it. We will need to go into one of these graphics and color correct them using sublimation values, then update your layout.
We use Adobe Photoshop 4.0 for working with raster graphics. It is important that whatever software you use for creating your raster graphic that you save it in such a way that we can open it in Adobe Photoshop for color correction.
- Please supply all fonts in your document or convert them to outlines software, permitting.
- In order to achieve proper color matching, it is important to use PMS Colors or provide an accurate color print for us to go by.
- Raster graphics should be provided as EPS files in CMYK mode. For best results, keep them as close to actual size and 300 dpi as you can.
- You can send your files on any of the following mediums: ZIP, JAZ, 1CB, 3.5" Optical 5.25." Syquest 44, 66 & 200mb, CD or 3.5" floppy.
- When sending a file from Photoshop, you can leave it in layers. We will flatten the image here after color correcting it and save it in the proper format for output.
- If you are using software or a medium not mentioned above, please call Vanguard Visual Graphix before sending us your job.
